A recent study of 150,000 people in Sweden found that medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can reduce an individual’s risk of being injured in a car accident by approximately 16%.
“If you don’t treat ADHD, there are risks,” Samuele Cortese, a researcher at the University of Southampton, said in response to the findings.
“Now, we have evidence that [ADHD] treatment reduces these risks.”
Experts add that the study helps governments understand the potential benefits of ADHD treatment for broader society (i.e. ways to ensure safer roads for motorists).

ADHD can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties — even with appropriate treatment.
For Canadians who can’t work due to this debilitating condition, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving ADHD — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
