Afie Boe has recalled his rags to riches story which saw him going from working in a Blackpool car factory to being a world-renowned singer.
Alfie, known as Lancashire's Michael Bublé, grew up in Fleetwood and worked in Blackpool before hitting the big time. Alfie was 'spotted' while working at TVR's Blackpool factory and was encouraged to attend an audition in London which led him down the path to stardom.
The singer was a guest on today's Sunday Brunch Live on Channel 4 when he was asked by hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer about his roots.
"I started out as a car mechanic in the north of England and I was singing in the factory and a customer overheard me and advised me to come to London to audition or a competition he knew about," Alfie recalled
"I did and I came down and I sang for them and they took me on for a year. Then I studied for four years at the Royal College of Music and then I got the break doing things for Les Misérables and working with Michael Ball and lots of different things."
Sunday Brunch presenter Rimmer then asked Alfie how his choice of musical genre went down with his colleagues and customers at the TVR factory.
"It was good acoustics," Alfie said before joking: "I got beaten up for it."
Alfie then went into more detail and said: "I was doing local amateur shows. One of the shows I was doing was West Side Story so whilst I was learning that show I would practice during the day in the factory."
Tim Lovejoy then suggested that Alfie's story would make a great movie.
"I'm writing a musical about that, in a way," Alfie replied. "I'm working with a couple of guys as well as writing the album and going on tour.
"This musical is a fully structured musical with dancers, singers and actors but it has scenes in the show which happened in real life to me."
Alfie is set to embark on a 35-date tour which will see him return to his roots on the Fylde coast on Saturday April 25 next year.
"I'm really looking forward to Blackpool Opera House because I used to be stage crew there," he added.
