Kia started its India operations in 2019. The Seltos was its first product here. The Korean carmaker is set to debut the second-generation Seltos today. Several teasers of the new model had surfaced in the past few weeks, giving out clues of what would change. With hours left for the launch, here’s everything we know about the new Kia Seltos.
First of all, the new Seltos will be bigger than the current model. It is likely to be longer and wider. The second generation will be underpinned by the K3 platform, which is essentially a heavily upgraded version of the K2 platform used in the outgoing model. The transition to this third-generation platform will make the wheelbase go up by up to 30mm. Clearly, the new-generation SUV will have more room inside.
This is because Kia just put out a teaser showing a 4X4 badge on the new Seltos' bootlid.
The new Seltos will feature fresh styling. It will align with Kia’s latest global design ethos. The front fascia will have the most notable changes. It will get a new Tigerface grille, redesigned LED headlamps and new bumpers. The LED DRLs will have a vertical orientation on the new car. Recent teasers of the new Seltos have revealed most of its design details. The rear will have a connected LED tail lamp cluster, a fresh tailgate design and a new bumper. The alloy wheels are also expected to be new.
The new SUV has cleaner lines and smoother panels. You’ll also see a flatter roof line. It will feature roof rails, a panoramic sunroof and a shark-fin antenna. The window lines will also be redesigned on the new model. The second-generation Seltos will have flush-type door handles instead of the pull-type units on the outgoing model.

The new SUV will have a fresh take on its cabin design. The interior design, layout and colours will be new. A recent set of spy shots has confirmed the same. The cabin, as suggested by these pictures, will use lighter colours and materials that feel more premium than those used on the current generation. The cabin in these looks more modern and upmarket.
We can also see a new three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with GT-specific trims, and an offset ‘Kia’ logo. The wheel also has integrated audio, telephony and ADAS controls. Interestingly, the drive and traction control selection buttons now sit on the steering wheel.

The pictures also show the new SUV’s large screen cluster. Instead of the dual 10.25-inch units on the outgoing model, the new Seltos will come with two 12.3-inch placed in a way that it looks almost like a large, single curved display, aligning with the carmaker’s evolving interior design direction.
There are physical controls for all essential infotainment functions. There is, however, one big change in these. The first-generation SUV had two rotary controls- one for volume control and the other for seek/radio tuning. The upcoming Seltos will have just a single scroll button.
The centre console looks cleaner than what’s offered on the first generation. The start/stop button has been moved to the centre console. The gear shifter is new. Features like an electronic parking brake with auto hold function, 360-degree camera, connected car suite, level 2 ADAS, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, wireless charger, etc will be retained. We can also see metal pedals and ambient lights in these images.
At launch, the second-generation Seltos is expected to feature the same set of engines and transmissions as the first-generation car. It will have both petrol and diesel engines- 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L turbocharged (TGDi) petrol and a 1.5L diesel. On the current generation, these produce 114hp & 144Nm, 158 hp & 253 Nm and 115hp & 250Nm, respectively. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be offered.
