NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox man faces a gun charge, after police said he was found in a stupor and illegally in possession of a firearm, according to police reports.
Police were called late Friday night for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of N. Prairie Road. The caller told police that a vehicle had been parked in a crosswalk, unoccupied with the windows down and the engine running for a long period of time, according to police reports.
Police determined the vehicle belonged to a nearby resident, who told police they were out of town and the vehicle was being used by a family member, identified as Michael Martin, 38.
Police tried to make contact with Martin inside the home. Other information the resident gave police led them to believe Martin was in danger.
Police made entry into the residence and found Martin inside on the bed in a stupor, with a loaded firearm near him on the bed. Officers were able to wake Martin, who did not have a coherent recollection of why he left the vehicle running or why he was in possession of a firearm, according to police reports.
Police learned Martin was a convicted felon who did not possess a FOID card. He was taken into custody and transported to the New Lenox Police Department.
He was then transferred to the Will County Jail.
