A resident of Kashmir has been arrested over a car blast that killed eight people and wounded at least 20 others in New Delhi last week, India’s National Investigation Agency said.
Amir Rashid Ali was arrested in Delhi, the agency said on Sunday, adding the car in the attack on 10 November was registered in his name.
The National Investigation Agency accused him of conspiring with the alleged suicide bomber, who it identified as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The blast, which triggered a fire that damaged several parked vehicles, happened near the gates of the metro station for the Red Fort, a former imperial palace and busy tourist spot.
At the time of the incident, the fire service reported that at least six vehicles and three autorickshaws had caught fire.
The explosion outside the Red Fort was the first such blast in the heavily guarded city since 2011.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the blast.
