Audi has kept faith with the station wagon, thank goodness. Not just that, but a high-performance station wagon, something the company arguably invented in 1994 when it produced the RS2 Avant in partnership with Porsche. As a result, we have the 2025 S5 Avant, built on Audi’s new PPC underpinnings (that stands for Premium Platform Combustion).
But why is it the S5? Last time around, there was a similar car known as the S4 Avant, which was part of the A4 range. Good luck if you can keep pace with Audi’s changing attitude to model designations. The A4 range was once the company’s bestseller and, until this year, it covered the everyday body styles (sedan and wagon), while A5 was reserved for the coupe, cabriolet and five-door Sportback.
