Emergency services were called to Brookfield Rd about 3.30pm to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.
“Police commenced CPR on the infant before she was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics,” NSW Police said.
Sadly the girl could not be saved.
Witnesses said the baby was struck while in her pram.
The five-year-old was treated by paramedics before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.
A 35-year-old driver was uninjured.
Debbie, who was in the area at the time, said it occurred in front of “a lot of shoppers”.
“It was very traumatic,” she said.
Locals had taken to social media to describe the “crazy” situation as ambulances, cops and a toll rescue chopper flooded the area.
“I (saw) a mangled pram. Praying little one’s OK,” one person said.
Another said: “The ambos just keep coming.”
A third posted: “Our hearts are with them. Please show respect for the family.”
An investigation is underway and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
