"Think about the pressure those last, 40, 50 laps. And you knew there was going to be plenty happening," said Tander.
"The way he kept his calm and even managed that last lap when Golding was mucking around with his five second penalty.
"I mean, that was a seriously impressive drive, so I'm really happy to be part of it.
"The track…there was a lot of aquaplaning going on. But we managed the wet tyre actually did really well and it sort of held on.
"It wasn't too sketchy though, even though it was pretty dangerous."
"It's absolutely insane, I was just on the wet when I got back in the car," said winner Matt Payne.
"It felt like forever, we kept getting safety cars, and it kept stalling our race, and then I saw Jimmy get into the side of Cooper, and I kind of predicted that was going to happen.
"Just managed to get through. Sort of felt like I ran out of tyres a bit at the end but win's a win."
Matt Payne and Garth Tander were able to make up sixteen spots at take the victory.
This is the first time since 2019 that Ford has won the Great Race.
Even though James Golding crossed the finish line first, it was New Zealand's Matt Payne who was able to challenge in the wet and take the victory.
It is Payne's first Bathurst 1000 victory with Dave Reynolds and James Golding. Erebus rookie Cooper Murray was in fourth and Cameron Hill took fifth.

Car No.100 is the winner at this year's Bathurst 1000 in a nail-biting finish.
Golding moves in front and Dave Reynolds joins the fight.
It is Golding, Payne and Reynolds with three corners to go but there is no visibility at the top of the Mountain.
James Golding wants to fight, with a five second penalty he is looking to make moves to get himself on the podium.
He is down the inside at the last lap.
It is chaos, we have three laps to go and who knows who will hoist the Peter Brock Trophy.
"It's anyone's game right now,' says Mark Skaife.
James Golding's penalty means that Dave Reynolds and Cooper Murray might have a fighting chance for second and third.
