TWO major motorways have been closed following a four vehicle crash and a lorry fire.
Emergency crews are in attendance at the M25, London and the M11, Cambridgeshire this morning following two serious incidents.
A lorry fire on the M25 saw emergency services, including the London Fire Brigade, race to the scene.
Drivers were warned to expect delays on the busy motorway after the lorry, which was transporting hay, caught fire earlier this morning.
The sudden blaze resulted in a multi-vehicle collision, adding to the confusion.
Vehicles stuck in the closed area are being released past the chaotic scene.
Emergency crews desperately battled the lorry inferno with the London Fire Brigade sending 25 firefighters and four engines to the blaze.
The M25 is closed between J25 Waltham Cross Interchange (Enfield, Hertford A10) and J24 Potters Bar Interchange (Potters Bar, A111).
Drivers have been warned to expect hour long delays and seven miles of congestion.
On the M11, traffic was halted after a "serious" collision, police and fire crews raced to the scene.
Drivers are being diverted around the closure after the crash, reportedly involving four vehicles, closed a stretch of the motorway.
One casualty was treated on the scene of the collision that saw a vehicle drive through the central reservation.
Traffic was stopped between Junction 11 and Junction 12 with National Highways warning drivers to expect 90 minute delays.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: "Police are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M11 at J11.
"The road has been closed in both directions to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
The London Fire Brigade said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been tackling a lorry fire on the M25 between Junction 25 and Junction 24.
"Crews have been working hard and a small part of the HGV remains alight.
"Please avoid the area if you can."
National Highways said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
