Rural Bolivia is awash in used cars smuggled in from neighboring Chile. The country’s top presidential candidate wants to make them all legal.
“It’s as if it were a sin to have a ‘chuto’ car in Bolivia when everyone has one,” centrist candidate Rodrigo Paz told Erbol radio in June, using the local name for contraband vehicles. “We’re going to legalize them.”
