A man is being held in custody in Longford Garda Station tonight after being arrested for possession of a weapon during a row in Annaly Car Park in Longford Town this afternoon.
According to onlookers, a violent row broke out between a number of people.
Gardaí – who arrived on the scene within minutes of hostilities kicking off – are believed to have found a man in possession of a weapon.
The man was arrested and brought to Longford Garda Station where he was formally charged.
He is due to appear before Mullingar District Court tomorrow. Garda investigations into the matter are continuing.
This is the second hostile incident to occur in the Annaly area within the space of 24 hours.
At 2.47am this morning, a gunman fired a shot outside a house in Garvey’s Close, Annaly Park. No one was injured during the incident. Footage of the shooting obtained by the Longford Leader can be viewed here.
