Three people in a parked car were shot Monday, Oct. 6, in an “ambush” near Clearlake Road and Rosentine Street, south of Eastern Florida State College’s Cocoa campus, Sheriff Wayne Ivey reported.
Multiple law enforcement vehicles responded to the site, near a seafood restaurant, after reports of gunfire in the area at around 4:30 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies were also searching for a second vehicle, for which no description has been provided.
The shootings were an “extremely isolated incident,” Ivey said in a video post on Facebook, and “there is no threat to anyone else in the public.”
“We found three gunshot victims,” he said. “The three of them have been transported to local hospitals where they are being treated by medical staff.”
From what investigators can tell, Ivey said, “it appears this was an ambush, some type of retaliatory thing,” between two groups of people who knew each other. The car in which the victims were located was parked, Ivey said. Another car pulled up and blocked it in, with shooters getting out of the second vehicle and firing between 20 and 30 rounds at the parked vehicle.
No details on the victims’ identities have been released.
Also responding to the scene were Brevard Fire Rescue and Cocoa Police Department. Crime scene investigators will be working in the area of the intersection and parking lot near the incident for “quite some time,” Ivey said: “If you can, please avoid this area,” he said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) or the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
