A car has hit three pedestrians on a busy road with the injured rushed to hospital.
Emergency services swarmed the scene in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire with police officers shutting the road after the crash. A visibly damaged car could be seen within a huge cordon outside a Home Bargains branch in Main Street.
Three ambulances were called out, East Midlands Ambulance Service said, with three people taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. There are no updates yet on the conditions of the pedestrians, or the motorist who is understood to have suffered a medical episode.
A member of staff at nearby Heron Foods, who wished not to be named, said: "It's not nice at all. We were all in here and we heard a bang.
"We went outside and next thing we know there was about 15 cop cars. People were stood there taking pictures so they moved the cordon further down the road.
"I've heard about 80 different stories on what's happened but the truth will come out in the end. It always does."
A Bulwell resident in his 70s, who did not wish to be named, said that the cordon has been in place for several hours.
The said: “It’s been like this for a few hours now – there were about 15 of us watching at one point. I need to get to GB Home Bargain, but if people are hurt, it’s obviously important they keep it closed.”
A map shows traffic brought to a standstill in Bulwell after the incident.
A red area is around the bus station and other areas near by have also been affected with traffic moving slower than normal.
Main Street in Bulwell was closed in both directions following the crash, which police believe to be an accident caused by a medical episode, earlier today.
It is closed from its junction with Station Road to Highbury Road, according to Nottingham Travelwise – the city's traffic control centre. Traffic monitoring service Inrix has said traffic is now queueing from Jennison Street to Ravensworth Road.
A massive cordon has blocked access between Bulwell Bus Station and the town square on Main Street.
Pedestrians walking between the station and the town square must do so by walking around High Road and back onto the square.
The square itself is open as usual, with around six people standing around and watching. A seperate police car blocks access to the square further down Highbury Road past B&M.
A visibly damaged car can be seen within the cordon outside the GB Home Bargain store. The store itself does not appear to be damaged.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision involving a car and three pedestrians in Main Street, Bulwell.
"At the moment, we believe the driver has suffered a medical episode at the wheel. The road is expected to be closed for some time while investigations take place. People are being advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area."
