The IM5 has heaps of impressive features, a high-end feel, and it’s fun to drive. Even so, it’s entering an already crowded EV market at a perilous price point.

Another new Chinese brand, another one identified by letters. But there’s a slight coda: this one is called IM but is being marketed as “IM Presented by MG”. There’s an MG Motor badge on the tail to reinforce it.
In short, IM is MG’s Lexus and perhaps they aren’t yet confident enough to take away the familiar MG moniker. Still, this first attempt to move into the prestige/luxury space is surprisingly accomplished. What’s more, the one-time British brand isn’t the only Chinese car company with lofty ambitions, and we’ll no doubt be seeing plenty more upmarket offerings from yet more new names soon.
