THOUSANDS of journeys have been thrown into chaos, after several major roads have been forced to close.
One particular route has ground to a halt after a car burst into flames, with drivers being told to expect delays.
Huge queues have formed on the M40 southbound after a car became "engulfed" by flames at 6.46pm this evening.
The "severe" congestion has built up steadily from J12 to J14, with delays being expected to continue until 7.15pm.
National Highways released a statement regarding the explosion, in which it urged drivers to expect major delays.
The statement read: "Lanes 1 and 2 of (3) are closed on the #M40 southbound in #Warwickshire, between J13 (#Warwick) and J12 (#Gaydon) following a single vehicle collision.
"All emergency services and #TrafficOfficers are working at the scene with delays of up to 45 minutes on the approach."
Meanwhile, the westbound carriageway of the M58 was closed between Junction 4 at Skelmersdale and Junction 3 at Bickerstaffe after a man reportedly fell from a motorway bridge at 12.01.
The agency added the eastbound carriageway was also temporarily shut to allow an air ambulance to attend the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly before 12pm today, we received a report that a man had fallen from the motorway bridge.
"Emergency services are currently in attendance, and the motorway may be closed for a while.
"We know it can be really frustrating when your journey is delayed, but we ask that you please avoid the area and find an alternative route to allow the emergency services privacy to work.
"We will bring you a further update when we are able to."
Earlier today, National Highways also confirmed that the M60 had been temporarily shut following a horrific crash.
A spokesperson for the agency said: "The link road between the M60 clockwise at J4 to the M56 westbound is currently closed due to a collision.
"We are at scene with the emergency services.
"For the M56 please continue clockwise to J5, exiting onto A5103 southbound to join the M56 at J3."
Elsewhere, South Wales Police attended the scene of a "serious collision" on the M4 at Junction 36 Sarn Eastbound.
The force said: "The road is not closed, but there are significant delays.
"Please use an alternative route and avoid the area at this time.
"Thank you for your cooperation and patience."

One lane is also closed on the M25 between Junction 10 at Guildford and Junction 11 at Woking due to a broken down vehicle and oil spillage.
Delays were seen stretching as far as Junction 9 at Leatherhead.
