BENNINGTON — The Bennington County Sheriff’s Department responded Thursday afternoon to a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 7 near mile marker 16, just north of exit 2 in Shaftsbury, in which two people sustained life-threatening injuries.
Due to the severity of the incident, Vermont Route 7 was closed between Exit 2 and Exit 3 for roughly two and a half hours while deputies and supporting agencies conducted an on-scene crash investigation. Two unidentified individuals sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and were immediately transported to Albany Medical Center for advanced medical care.
Initial observations indicated that icy road conditions were a contributing factor.
In a press release after the crash, the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department extended its appreciation to all supporting agencies, including the Bennington Police Department, Vermont State Police, Shaftsbury Fire Department, Arlington Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department, and the Bennington Rescue Squad for their prompt and coordinated response.
The crash remains under active investigation. No further information was available as of press time on Friday.
