A car has driven onto the train tracks in Brockenhurst this afternoon.
Pictures from the scene show a black car has veered onto the tracks at a level crossing in the village.
Rail passengers are facing severe delays with cancellations expected as emergency services work to recover the vehicle.
South Western Railway issued a statement on social media.
A spokesperson said: “An obstruction on the track is affecting the railway at Brockenhurst. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem.”
They added: “We have received an update and disruption to our services is now expected until the end of the day. As the investigations are ongoing this may change but we will update you if it does.”
In a social media post, New Forest Police has said: “We are currently on scene assisting our colleagues from the British Transport Police with an incident in Brockenhurst, involving a car on the railway track.
“As such, the level crossing gates have been closed and the A337 is closed in both directions.
“We would ask people avoid the area as this incident is dealt with.”
