The crash caused BART service to shut down between the Castro Valley and West Dublin/Pleasanton stations. There was no estimate for when service would resume, according to Michelle Robertson, a spokesperson for the transit agency.
Robertson said the car had been on a tow truck before ending up on the tracks. No other information about what led to the crash was immediately available from BART or the California Highway Patrol.
Alameda County Fire Department spokesperson Cheryl Hurd said the crash sparked a brush fire that was later extinguished, and that one person had been taken to a hospital. Hurd did not know the person’s condition.
Lanes in both directions of Interstate 580 in the area were closed due to the incident.
Further information wasn’t immediately available.
