It was miraculous nobody was hurt after the 'confused' driver travelled nearly four miles, say police
A motorist who drove the wrong way along the M6 was "inches" from a head-on crash, police said.
The vehicle travelled more than 6km (3.7miles) south on the northbound carriageway from junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent before eventually stopping in lane four, "inches from a head on collision," Staffordshire Police said.
More than 30 people made emergency calls when they spotted the car on Saturday evening. Miraculously no-one was hurt, police said. Drivers were thanked for their swift actions and for sticking to the motorway signals.
The driver had temporarily surrendered their driving licence before a full review by the DVLA and medical professionals.
The M6 was immediately closed northbound at J14 when the car was reported, and officers put themselves in harm's way to protect the public.
