Several people have been injured after reports that a car collided with pedestrians in a Cardiff suburb. South Wales Police were called to the incident at Heol Trelai in Caerau just before 12.30am on Saturday, September 27.
A large cordon was in place stretching from Caerau Lane to Church Road for much of the day while crime scene investigators carried out their work accompanied by a large police presence with many police vehicles present.
Pictures taken at the scene showed investigators taking pictures of the scene where evidence gathering was taking place in the road near a grass verge in the middle of the carriageway outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club. The cordon has been removed.
A cordon remains in place on Heol Trelai in Caerau, Cardiff following an incident in the early hours of the morning outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club. Locals reported alleged fighting in the street moments before an incident where a vehicle crashed into pedestrians. One person who suffered serious injuries is in hospital.
A person at the scene, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It happened on the grass verge in the middle of the carriageway directly outside the Homeguard. It was the usual sight – people fighting.
"Then a car comes up and ploughs into some of them. I saw it from my bedroom window. If you lived here you wouldn't be surprised."
A resident just outside the cordon on Heol Trelai who wanted to remain anonymous said he didn't hear a collision last night but did come out of his house after hearing a lot of shouting.
"It wasn't particularly unusual," he told our reporter. "There's often shouting in the street going on here. It happens most weekends. But I did notice there were a hell of a lot of people crowded around there just outside the club. People seemed angry. But I didn't see anything else."
Our reporter at the scene said: "The cordon is very large. It stretches from the junction at Lon y Castell to the junction at Church Road. It's not the full road. It's the side outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club.
"Crime scene investigation unit is here. Numbered cones are out on the road directly outside the club but there doesn't look like there is any remnants of a collision. There are some items of clothing on the floor."
