Firefighters were called to rescue a man whose mobility scooter became stuck between a wall and a car parked on double yellow lines and across the pavement. The jam occurred on Ramsgate’s Albion Hill on Saturday afternoon.
Witness Paul Marsh said: “I was walking along the seafront when I saw a gentleman wedged up between the wall and a Nissan Pulsa. There was no chance he was getting out of it. He couldn’t have even helicoptered out of it.
“He wasn’t shouting and screaming but he wasn’t happy. He seemed a bit embarrassed.”
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed one fire engine attended the incident just after 12.30pm, with crews using “lifting equipment to release one person and a mobility scooter”. “There are no reported injuries,” added the spokesperson.
Photos show the car left on double yellow lines, leaving only a narrow gap for pedestrians. Living Streets – a campaign group working to promote walking and road safety – says irresponsible parking can have “catastrophic” effects on residents. “This incident shows how dangerous and scary our streets can become for people when vehicles block pavements,” said a spokesperson.

“It’s been five years since the government opened its consultation into how to tackle pavement parking in England, but still no plans are in place. Someone isolated in their home due to pavement parking is missing out on everything from enjoying green spaces to visiting family and friends, with a catastrophic effect on their mental and physical health.”
