Philadelphia police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after a crash that left a home with major damage and another driver in critical condition.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Oxford Avenue, Kenwyn Street and Horrocks Street in the city’s Frankford neighborhood.
Our photographer on the scene showed a hole in the outer wall of the home.
Police said the driver of a Honda ran a stop sign and struck a silver Toyota. The collision sent the Honda into the side of the home at the end of Kenwyn Street.
The Honda driver then fled the scene on foot while the driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old man, was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition.
Homeowner Cheri Clayton said she had just exited her bathroom when she heard the sound of the crash, thinking at first that her home was collapsing.
Clayton said she went into her living room and saw fire at first, not realizing there was a car in the room.
She is planning to stay wth her brother while her home is repaired, and urged the city to implement safety measures like speed bumps at that intersection, which has had several crashes.
We’ve also reached out to the city Department of Licenses and Inspections for more information on the condition of the home.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is on the scene. A tow truck was in the process of removing the car.
Police are urging anyone with more information on the Honda driver to reach out.
