A car was spotted submerged in the River Trent this morning (Saturday, November 15), with police launching an urgent appeal as its occupants may be unaccounted for.
An investigation was launched by officers in response to reports that a car was seen entering the river near Wilford Suspension Bridge, in West Bridgford, at around 5am.
The vehicle is suspected to have come from the vicinity of Wilford Grove. Emergency services have been working to track the car and possible occupants down and have now appealed for the public's help.
Anyone who saw what happened, or has any relevant CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone or dashcam footage has been asked to get in touch with the force immediately.
Police have said they are also keen to hear from any members of the public who may be aware of anyone who has not returned home or cannot currently be accounted for.
Detective Sergeant Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Specialist teams have been working over the past day to track the vehicle and determine whether any occupants remain unaccounted for.
"As the investigation continues and we grow increasingly concerned, we are calling on the public for assistance.
"If you witnessed anything in the area, or have any relevant CCTV, please report it to us.
"We’d also like to hear from anyone who has any concerns about someone who may be missing in the area – even the smallest detail could prove vital to the investigation."
Anyone with any information has been asked to call 101, quoting incident number 91 of November 15, 2025, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
