Detective Acting Sergeant Aaron Elford, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said a new white Chery Tiggo hatchback $30,000 was stolen in Mount Gambier about lunchtime on Monday.
He said that vehicle was seen by police members coming into Portland about 3.30pm the same afternoon and had been involved in a number of incidents of failing to stop on police request during the past 48 hours.
The Chery was then seen by police parked at a Bancroft Street address at 8.30am on Wednesday, and the 21-year-old was observed at the same property.
He was arrested, and the keys to the vehicle were found at the address.
Detective Acting Sergeant Elford said the man had been interviewed in relation to a number of outstanding crimes committed during the past 12 months.

Those offences include vehicle thefts and handling a stolen firearm, which was located in October last year.
The 21-year-old has been charged with 14 offences and was remanded in custody to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for a bail/remand hearing.
The charges include burglary, theft (ammunition) and the theft of the Chery and a purple Mazda stolen from the Geelong district in June which was recovered at a Portland Mitchell Crescent address.
The police case and some of the charges are backed by forensics.
Police will oppose bail on the grounds the young man has an extensive criminal history, is therefore an unacceptable risk of continuing to offend, and he’s a risk to community safety.
