Multiple pedestrians have been injured as a car is believed to have crashed into a group in Cardiff.
South Wales Police rushed to Heol Trelai in Caerau just before 12.30am this morning on Saturday. It is suspected that three people were struck by the car, with one person suffering from serious injuries.
A cordon has been put in place. The road has been closed in both directions between Caerau Lane and Church Road.
Here's what we know so far:
The incident has led some to recall a tragic incident on Heol Trelai in May 2023.
Christopher West, 42, hit Keely Morgan with his Vauxhall Astra on Heol Trelai, Caerau, Cardiff at about 9:30pm on May 1 that year. Young Keely, 15, died at the scene.
West, who was driving over the 30mph speed limit, failed to see the teenager, despite her being lit up by an iPad she had been using at the pedestrian crossing. Keely had overcome significant health problems ahead of her death, having undergone a kidney transplant in 2021 to save her life.
Judge Paul Hobson branded West as an “irresponsible show off” at a sentencing hearing in July this year.
Cardiff Crown Court heard that West’s two daughters and their friend had been in the car during the incident. One of the passengers told the police West had been “snaking” along the road and had removed his car’s black box, invalidating his insurance, to show off to them.
A local has described how he spotted an 'angry' crowd at the crime scene.
He said he stepped outside his house to see what was happening after hearing shouting.
He said: "It wasn't particularly unusual. There's often shouting in the street going on here. It happens most weekends.
"But I did notice there were a hell of a lot of people crowded around there just outside the club. People seemed angry. But I didn't see anything else."
A picture shows the aftermath of the collision which happened this weekend.
In the image, a cordon can be seen in place. A worker is also pictured placing markers at the scene.
A witness recalled what happened in the lead up to the crash which caused multiple injuries.
The local resident told Wales Online: "It happened on the grass verge in the middle of the carriageway directly outside the Homeguard. It was the usual sight – people fighting.
"Then a car comes up and ploughs into some of them. I saw it from my bedroom window. If you lived here you wouldn't be surprised."
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police was called just before 12.30am this morning, Saturday, September 27, with a report that the driver of a car had collided with several pedestrians on Heol Trelai in Caerau area of Cardiff.
"Currently, we believe that three people were struck by the car, with one person suffering serious injuries that may be life-changing.
"To ensure a thorough investigation, a large cordon is in place around the area with the road currently being closed in both directions between Caerau Lane and Church Road.
"We appreciate the public's patience as we work to gather more information and progress with our inquiries."
