FIREFIGHTERS were seen helping a car that was stuck in floodwater with its hazard lights on as a storm hits Worcestershire.
A car was stranded in floods in Lightwood Lane, Cotheridge, following heavy winds and rainfall caused by Storm Chandra.
An eyewitness said: “The car was stuck there with its hazards on.
“A fire engine was there and one firefighter was wading through the water.
“Cars were unable to get through and had to turn around and go back the other way.”
Hereford and Worcester Fire Service confirmed it was called out to Lightwood Lane at 8.39am to a vehicle, stuck in a ditch in two feet of water.
There were no occupants in the car.
Another road has been blocked with floodwater between Cradley and Suckley, with another car stuck deep in the water.
Roads from Wichenford to Martley have also felt the effects of Storm Chandra, with significant surface water affecting drivers.

At this stage, the emergency road closures due to flooding in Worcestershire include the A451 in Dunley, the A44 in Broadwas, the A44 in Cotheridge, and the A443 in Eardiston.
A high chance of rain is expected to continue across Worcester until 3pm, according to Met Office forecasts.


Twelve flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency across Worcestershire, including the River Severn in Worcestershire and Rivers in South Worcestershire.

The River Severn in Worcester is expected to peak between 4metres and 4.6metres on Wednesday, January 28.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Flooding may affect low lying land & roads adjacent to the river from Highley to Tewkesbury; including Dog Lane Bewdley, Stourport, Diglis & Hylton Road towpath.

“Flooded drains affect the racecourse & Worcester County Cricket Ground.
“We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
Storm Chandra is causing disruption across Worcestershire with several schools also being forced to close.
