A woman was pinned in one of the three seriously damaged vehicles, fire officials said, noting it took about 40 minutes to get her out of the building on its side. Plaistow police said four vehicles were involved in total.
The seriously injured child and adult had to be flown to trauma centers. Fire officials didn’t share how badly each person was injured, but said injuries ranged between life-threatening and minor.
But the two people flown from the scene who had serious injuries were expected to survive, state police said Friday, sharing what’s believed to have led to the crash.
A Mercedes car, suspected to be speeding, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Nissan SUV headed the other way, police said. Two SUVs were also damaged.
The Mercedes’ driver, a woman from Haverhill, Massachusetts, was the adult flown to the hospital, while the seriously injured child was in the Nissan, state police said.
They didn’t share if anyone was expected to face charges or be cited. The investigation was still ongoing as of Friday afternoon.
