CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper City Council signed off on the purchase of new vehicles to be used by various city departments, including the Solid Waste Division and the Sanitation Division.
Among the vehicles purchased is a 53-foot box van trailer to be used by the Casper Solid Waste Facility. The box van trailer will be used to transport recyclable materials from the municipal solid waste facility to Wyoming Recycling.
According to a staff memo from Chief Operating Officer Tom Brauer, the current trailer is nearing the end of its lifespan, and will be deconstructed and used as additional storage space.
The new trailer will cost $50,569 and is being paid for from the city’s solid waste reserves in the fiscal year 2026 budget.
Also purchased by the city is a new rear-load sanitation truck, with a price tag of $357,569.13. It will be funded with solid waste capital funds.
The truck will be used for trash collection at city parks, the downtown area and the landfill. It will also be used to pick up litter at various other spots throughout the city.
The city plans to auction the old rear-load truck off after the arrival of the new truck.
A new truck-mounted single-engine sewer cleaner was also purchased for $512,250, to be used by the Wastewater Collection Division. Brauer stated in a staff memo that it will be used in routine sewer main cleanings, responding to backups and aiding in emergency repairs.
Brauer wrote that the older trucks have frequent pump failures, failures in the debris body and auxiliary engine issues.
The truck is being funded by fifth-cent capital monies.
