GREENWICH — A worker has died after he was hit by a car in Greenwich while working in a construction area early Saturday morning, according to state police.
The car was traveling on 1-95, south of exit 3 in Greenwich when the driver drove into a construction zone and struck a worker, police said.

The person who was struck, 38-year-old Traymont Trucker, of Waterbury, was pronounced dead at around 3 a.m. Saturday by Greenwich EMS.
The driver, a 38-year-old from Yonkers, N.Y., had minor injuries and was sent to Stamford Hospital by Greenwich EMS, police said.
The state Dept. of Transportation, Greenwich Fire Department, Greenwich Police Department and state Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad were all at the scene. The car that was involved in the incident was towed from the scene, police said.
I-95 north was shut down in the area during the investigation and reopened just prior to 10 a.m., according to state police.

The case remains under investigation.
At around 1 p.m. Saturday, the state Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said in a statement, "Our hearts go out to the friends, family, and loved ones of Traymont Tucker. Our entire agency grieves with all those impacted by this morning’s horrific event."

“This tragedy underscores how dangerous working on the highway is and how critical it is for everyone to do their part to keep workers safe. It is simply unacceptable that these preventable tragedies keep occurring. We need the public to follow the slow down, move over law; stay alert; and drive sober. These actions save lives,” the statement said.
