POUGHKEEPSIE – A 72-year-old school crossing guard was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle near the Smith School Monday morning.
Poughkeepsie Police Chief Rich Wilson said City 911 received multiple reports of the accident near the intersection of Baker and Quaker Streets at approximately 7:30 a.m.
City fire, police, and EMS personnel arrived and immediately began life-saving measures to the man before taking him to the hospital for continued care.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The school district has made counselors available for students and staff who may have witnessed the crash.
