AUSTIN, Texas — A cyclist is dead after being hit by a car on State Highway 71 near the Austin airport Monday afternoon, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.
It happened just before 2:30 p.m. in the westbound lane near the US 183 northbound ramp, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Austin Police Department said US 183 northbound and SH 71 westbound are currently closed at the interchange.

Medics attempted life saving measures on the cyclist. The patient was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.
APD and TxDPS are investigating the crash.
Drivers should expect major delays and seek alternate routes.
