As the EC experiences pressure to change emissions rules through to 2035, automakers are showing off their ideas for the E-car segment. By Ian Henry
Pressure on the European Commission (EC) to amend plans for electric vehicles (EVs) and the 2035 ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles is rising. Trade organisations, such as the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), and volume manufacturers, notably Renault and Stellantis, are pushing hard for the EC to create regulatory space a new vehicle segment. This would be for smaller and lower cost EVs with fewer safety features than demanded of mainstream segments. Some commentators have likened this idea to the creation of an electric version of the kei segment in Japan.
