State officials are urging New York drivers to be careful around snowplows in the wake of a recent accident near Watertown.
The warning comes after the Department of Transportation released dash cam footage of a car running into a snowplow at night.
The video shows the snowplow’s cab shuddering as the car crashes into the right side of the plow at an intersection near the Jefferson County hamlet of Adams Center.
A state official urged caution near plows.
“Our plow trucks weigh several times more than most passenger vehicles, which means our operators are often well protected inside the cab,” a DOT spokesperson said. “The people most at risk are the drivers who lose control and hit them.”
No one was injured in the crash, the spokesperson said. Other than at night, it wasn’t clear when the accident happened.
“Slow down, increase your following distance, and drive for the conditions,” the spokesperson urged.
The Watertown area has been hit by up to 20 inches of fresh lake-effect snow on top of the East Coast storm that dumped up to 18 inches of snow Sunday and Monday.
