Delhi News Blast Live Updates: A powerful blast rocked the national capital on Monday evening, as a high-intensity explosion ripped through a Hyundai i20 car parked near the busy area of high-security Red Fort metro station.
It has not been confirmed whether the explosion was a bomb blast in Delhi, but a forensic investigation is underway to ascertain the nature of the blast.
At least eight deaths have been reported due to the Delhi blast so far. Meanwhile, at least 18 injures have been reported, and all the injured have been rushed to hospitals.
At least one person has been detained for questioning regarding ownership of the car, while cops are separately questioning individuals arrested in connection with a terror module allegedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH). The module was busted on Monday and 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered, hours before the blast rocked Delhi.
Delhi Police have registered a case in connection with the blast near the historic Red Fort in the city under various Sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and is in touch with Home Minister Amit Shah, according to government sources. PM Modi also expressed condolences over the loss of lives.
Home Minister Amit Shah, meanwhile, visited the hospital to meet the injured. He also spoke with security and intelligence officials and is updating PM Modi on investigations.
Police have sounded a high alert in Delhi as the investigation continues. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra has also been put on high alert over the incident.
At least 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, with police cordoning off the area, the Delhi Fire Services said.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered windows of vehicles parked several metres away and was heard in nearby buildings of the congested area.
“The blast occurred in a car parked near Red Fort metro station gate number 1. The intensity was quite high. Injuries are feared,” said a senior official of Delhi Fire Service.
Visuals of the incident showed plumes of fire billowing from the burning cars.
Chandni Chowk market will be closed on Tuesday due to the Delhi blast on Monday evening, the traders association said.
“Our deepest condolences to the victims of the Delhi blast. While investigations by [Indian] authorities proceed our first thoughts are with families who lost loved ones & with all those injured to whom we wish swift recovery. We stand by Indian people in this moment of shock & grief,” said Hervé Delphin, Ambassador, Delegation of European Union to India.
“Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. We continue to closely monitor the situation. Our sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) of the US State Department said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to all those affected by the incident this evening near Delhi’s Red Fort,” wrote Australia’s High Commissioner to India Philip Green.
“Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones and we wish for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he added.
Amid the ongoing investigation into the blast, the Forensic Science Laboratory told ANI that samples will be taken to the laboratory and that a clue regarding the nature of the blast will be known after the examination.
“…The samples will be taken to the laboratory, and after that, only we can make any confirmation…Everything will be known after the examination…,” FSL Officer Mohamad Wahid told reporters.

CM Rekha Gupta posted in Hindi, “Visited LNJP Hospital and met with the citizens injured in the accident, inquired about their condition, and wished for their speedy recovery. Instructed the officials that there should be no shortcomings whatsoever in the treatment of the injured and that all necessary medical facilities be provided immediately and with complete promptness.”
Press Information Bureau posted, “Some social media accounts are claiming that Special CP (Law & Order) Ravindra Yadav has confirmed that the recent blast in #Delhi was caused by a CNG explosion. This claim is fake. No official from the Delhi Police has made any such statement.”

The US Embassy has issued an advisory to its citizens in India, warning them to be alert after the Delhi blast near Red Fort today. Here is what it has said:

Authorities were put on high alert and heavy checking prevailed at the Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir following the Delhi blast that killed at least 8 on Monday.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the LNJP Hospital on late Monday to interact with the victims of the Red Fort blast in New Delhi. Visuals from the hospital shows her interacting with the patients.

The Embassy also conveys its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and wishes patience and comfort for them, as well as a speedy recovery for those injured in this tragic incident,” says Iran Embassy.
“Horrifying reports from Delhi. My thoughts are with the families of those killed, the emergency responders & the Indian people, as they confront this dark moment.The UK Government must support British nationals in Delhi & respond to requests for assistance,” Patel said in an X post.

Following the Delhi bomb blast, Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been placed on high alert. Police have intensified checking across the city, especially at railway stations where incoming vehicles are being thoroughly inspected. DCP Rupal Solanki stated that security measures have been strengthened to ensure public safety, PTI reports.
“Strongly condemn the heinous blast near Delhi’s #RedFort. This cowardly act is an attack on our nation and its people. Heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Kerala stands in steadfast solidarity with the people of Delhi in this hour of grief. Urge the authorities to ensure that those behind this heinous act are brought to justice without delay. Such forces that threaten our nation’s peace must be defeated,” Vijayan said in an X post.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann posts, “I have received the tragic news of the bomb blast that occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi, in which several people have reportedly died a painful death and many others are said to be seriously injured. A high-level investigation should be conducted into this incident that took place in the country’s capital, and the culprits should be given the strictest possible punishment. We pray to the Almighty for the peace of the souls of the pedestrians who lost their lives in this accident and wish for the swift recovery of the injured.”
Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for Gurugram Police, said that the car used in the blast was originally registered to a Gurugram resident identified as Salman. “He had sold the vehicle to a man named Devender, a resident of Okhla, around one and a half years ago. We have handed over Salman to the Delhi Police. Devender has been arrested by Delhi Police, and both are being questioned to trace the subsequent sale and establish the complete chain of ownership,” Kumar said, as per HT.
The spokesperson said that the car was later sold to someone in Ambala but they don’t have further details.
“My heart reaches out to everyone impacted by today’s tragic blast near the Red Fort in Delhi. 💔 Let’s support the victims, look out for each other, and commit to peace,” the actor said in an X post.
“On behalf of the People and Government of Argentina we convey our condolences to those who lost loved ones as a consequence of the Red Fort blast.
