SINGAPORE – One person died on the spot after a car caught fire on the TPE in the wee hours of Oct 31.
In response to queries from The Straits Times, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire along the TPE towards the SLE, at the slip road near the CTE exit, at about 2.55am.
The dead person is believed to be a man, and the car he was driving was a BMW 520i.
SCDF said the car fire was extinguished using a water jet.
In response to queries, the police said the car is believed to have skidded on the expressway.
In the aftermath of the blaze, a Land Transport Authority (LTA) alert on social media platform X at about 6.20am said the SLE exit was closed.
Less than an hour later, LTA issued another alert saying the CTE exit was also closed. The exits reopened at about 9.20am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In a video uploaded on the Roads.sg Facebook page, the car, which has turned turtle, can be seen burning. SCDF firefighters can be seen battling the fire.
