Police were investigating the cause of a fatal two-car crash on the East Loop 820 North Freeway in Fort Worth on New Year’s Eve that shut lanes and snarled the evening commute for motorists, police said.
Around 5:45 p.m., Fort Worth police responded to a major accident in the northbound lanes at 600 East Loop 820 North Freeway.
Police said two cars collided, causing one to overturn. The driver of the flipped car died at the scene, police said. Officers did not release the driver’s identity.
Three hours after the crash, officers were still on the scene, Fort Worth police confirmed.

Investigators did not immediately say if if they planned to pursue criminal charges in connection with the wreck. A Fort Worth police officer said Wednesday evening the incident appears to be an unfortunate accident, but it will still be investigated.
