LOWER SOUTHAMPTON TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — Police in Bucks County say surveillance video shows a driver deliberately accelerating toward a group of people in the parking lot of the Hive Lounge early New Year's Day, striking three pedestrians and two parked cars before circling the building and attempting to hit others who narrowly escaped.
Broken glass and debris remained scattered across the lot days after the incident, which police say occurred around 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 as customers were leaving the lounge's New Year's Eve celebration.
According to the Hive Lounge's social media page, the business just celebrated its opening night on December 27.
Investigators say 22-year-old Roba Gasitashvili of Philadelphia drove into a group of five people.
Police said a 29-year-old victim was found with "serious facial and head trauma." Two other pedestrians were struck but were able to walk away, police said.
Lower Southampton Township Police Chief Ed Krimmel said detectives are still working to determine what led to the violence.
"Obviously, there was some kind of dispute. There were some language barriers there; we're still trying to figure out what the dispute was about," Krimmel said.
Investigators said Gasitashvili's vehicle, a white Volkswagen Jetta, was later found unoccupied in a nearby shopping center with significant damage, including a shattered windshield and blood on the hood. The car was registered in his name, and police believe he had a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Police believe Gasitashvili may have fled the country.
"Federal authorities are gonna help us with getting this guy into custody eventually," Krimmel said. "If anybody knows his whereabouts, they should call us. If he's watching this, he should turn himself in."
The 29-year-old victim, identified by family on a GoFundMe page as Sergei, remains hospitalized. Police confirm the fundraiser was created by his mother to help with medical expenses.
"Our understanding is he was in a coma at Penn Presbyterian, he is apparently conscious now," Krimmel said. "Our detectives are waiting for him to be in a little bit of a better state before doing another interview."
Police are still working to contact witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call Lower Southampton Township police.
