MURRAY, Utah (KUTV) — A driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after their car rolled and erupted into flames on I-215 in Murray.
The crash was first reported by the Utah Department of Transportation near the I-15 interchange just after 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Traffic cameras in the area showed the car just off the highway fully engulfed in flames before responding firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said the driver was able to be removed from the car. It is unclear what injuries they suffered.
Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. Based on a preliminary investigation, Lt. Roden said the car collided with the crash cushion and rolled. No other cars were involved.
The two right-most lanes on westbound I-215 in the area remain closed as crews investigate and clear the scene.
No estimate was provided on when the scene is expected to clear.
