The A1(M) southbound carriageway is closed between junctions 52 and 51
A man has been seriously injured in a collision between a car and a lorry.
The southbound carriageway of the A1(M) between junctions 52 and 51 remains closed while police investigate, with closures expected until the early afternoon.
The car driver was taken to hospital after the incident near Catterick at about 02:20 GMT but the lorry driver was uninjured.
North Yorkshire Police said they believed the car had been travelling behind the lorry and ended up in the central reservation.
A diversion is in place via the A6055.
