A crash in New Bedford early Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of two people and injured two others, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
On Saturday morning at 2 a.m., State Police received a report of a single-car crash with life-threatening injuries on Route 140 in New Bedford.
Troopers found a 2019 Honda Civic with significant damage off of the road. One of the four passengers of the vehicle was found dead at the scene, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police told MassLive. First responders took the other three people to a local hospital. After they were taken, however, another person died from their injuries.
The victims were not identified by the Massachusetts State Police.
The state police crash analysis reconstruction section, state police crime scene services section and the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit were called to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, traffic continued to flow in the breakdown lane. The road reopened to normal traffic after 5 a.m.
“The State Police offer our condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased,” the spokesperson wrote.
The Massachusetts State Police did not provide further details about the other two injured people.
