HOUSTON, Texas — The need for speed!
Today's electric vehicles are quiet as ever and designed with the driver's experience in mind.
"I've come up next to a Lamborghini and a Corvette at a traffic light. They're rumbling and making a lot of noise, and I'm just sitting there silently in my modest car," David Lowy, an electric car owner from Houston, said.
"I get out in front of them by a 100 yards before they wake up to it," Lowy said.
"Most people know EV's as that EV smile," Josh Boone, executive director for Veloz, said.
Veloz is an organization committed to informing Americans about the benefits of driving electric vehicles.
"You get in the car. You hit the accelerator. They're fast off the line," Boone said.

It's that power and immediate speed that makes electric vehicles fun to drive, Boone said.
"High torque… they're quiet vehicles. They're a pleasure to drive. EV's are innovative out the gate," Boone said.
That electric vehicle innovation has been decades in the making.
Electric car prototypes unveiled decades ago had few technological advances beyond the battery.
Not so today.
New electric vehicles now feature immersive technology that makes your driving experience seamless and safe.
Some cars feature augmented reality technology, which can scan for obstacles nearby.

"Electric vehicles are on the bleeding edge of technology, whether it's over-the-air software updates, whether it's regenerative braking, whether it's the infotainment center, whether it's the vehicle-to-home ability to power your home if there's an outage," Boone said.
Some electric cars are equipped with self-driving features, meaning a driver simply has to plug in the destination and enjoy the ride.
"You just press a button on the screen, and it's kind of like having a magic carpet. It just takes off and takes you," Dave Hanson, an electric car owner from Houston, said.
At ElectricForAll.org, powered by Veloz, drivers in the market for a new electric vehicle can search for the right vehicle for them.
The website provides a search feature where drivers can find electric cars available near their zip code and narrow down the search based on driving habits.
