One person was killed and three others suffered serious injuries in a traffic accident Tuesday morning between a car and a truck on Highway 20, near Saint-Hyacinthe, Montérégie.
The response of emergency services following this fatal collision resulted in the closure of Highway 20 eastbound between Exit 138 and the entrance from Route 116.
The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the trailer of a truck entering the highway struck a car.
“The car swerved as a result of the collision, and it also rolled over. Unfortunately, we are talking about the death of one of the passengers in the car,” explained Sergeant Louis-Philippe Ruel, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The three other occupants of the car, all men, suffered injuries considered serious. The ages of the people involved in this incident were not immediately known.
The truck driver did not remain at the scene after the accident, so police are looking for him. The SQ does not know if he deliberately fled the scene or if he did not notice the impact between the car and his truck’s trailer.
According to Sergeant Ruel, Highway 20 toward Quebec City could remain closed “for a short time” in the area of ​​the accident, allowing police time to analyze the scene.
