JACKSON CO., Ala. (WAFF) – Help is on the way for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office patrol fleet.
On Tuesday, Congressman Dale Strong visited the department after securing a $250,000 federal appropriation to buy several new patrol vehicles, including one unmarked unit.
Sheriff Rocky Harnen says replacing cars has become hard in recent years as costs rise and state funding drops.
“Jackson County covers nearly 100 miles end-to-end, meaning deputies can rack up heavy mileage fast,” Harnen said. “We put a lot of miles on our cars, sometimes two to 400 miles a day per shift. It’s really important that we keep them fresh and keep them going.”e
Harene says the new Ford Explorer units will help keep deputies safe and reduce maintenance issues.
