Two pedestrians were killed Sunday, Sept. 7, after walking directly into the path of a car at around 8 p.m. on Merritt Island, Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The adult man and woman were headed in a westerly direction, and not in a marked crosswalk, when they entered the path of and were struck by a southbound 1991 Lincoln Town Car, Lt. Tara Crescenzi, Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, said in a release. The vehicle was traveling in the outside lane of North Courtenay Parkway south of Grove Boulevard, FHP said.
The pedestrians, whose names have not been released pending identification, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver, a 26-year-old Rockledge man, and his 3-year-old passenger were not injured. The driver remained at the scene, FHP said.
At 10 p.m. Sunday, a roadblock was still in place in both directions of North Courtenay Parkway.
The crash remains under investigation.
