LIVERMORE, CA — A Contra Costa County fire captain was injured while responding to one of several crashes that resulted in a SigAlert along Vasco Road, according to reports from NBC Bay Areaand the Bay Area News Group.
Roads have reopened on Vasco Road as of 4:10 p.m., according to CHP.
Contra Costa County Fire Captain George Laing told the East Bay Times that the captain was hit just before 1:30 p.m., and suffered lower-extremity injury and hospitalized. His condition is not known as of 4:50 p.m. Friday, though the CHP log noted a major injury pedestrian crash. Despite this, CHP Dublin said in an Instagram post that there were “no major injuries.”
The first crash took place at 1:26 p.m. Friday, when a green Jeep collided with an unknown vehicle in heavy fog, according to the CHP log. Officers received reports of another crash in which a pedestrian suffered major injuries.
At 1:38, a second crash involving seven vehicles was reported on southbound Vasco Road just north of Vaqueros Road. Two Teslas sustained major damage, and at least one minor injury was reported.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:22 p.m. Vasco Road remains closed in both directions as of 3:30 Friday, according to 511.org.
“Today, we responded to several crashes on Vasco Road due to heavy fog. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries. We want to remind everyone to slow down, drive to arrive, and ensure your headlights are on whenever conditions are foggy. Stay safe,” CHP Dublin said in an Instagram post.
