The incident happened at around 12.30pm on Sunday on Great King Street in the New Town area of Edinburgh. No casualties were reported.
Pictures show the charred remains of the destroyed vehicle which has now been taped off by police. The blaze also caused damage to a neighbouring car.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of a car fire in Great King Street in Edinburgh at around 12.32pm.
“Two appliances were in attendance and stayed on site to make the vehicles safe. It spread to one other vehicle, but no other buildings”.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 3.43pm.”
