AUBURN (WGME) – Five Maine teens were apprehended after a high-speed chase involving a stolen truck on Friday morning.
The pursuit began after a Lewiston police officer located a truck at a traffic stop that was reported stolen earlier that morning from Saco. Deputies began their chase on Main Street in Lewiston, and the chase continued into Auburn.
During the pursuit, the fleeing driver was involved in two crashes — first at the intersection of Turner and Court Streets, and later on Academy Street — and was successfully stopped on Rockhill Avenue in Auburn.
The truck held three juveniles and two adults. The driver was a 17-year-old male from Saco, who was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center, where he faces charges of Violation of Juvenile Probation, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon and Eluding.
Passenger Jayza Swan, 18, of South Portland, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Violating Conditions of Release and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. Swan is held at Androscoggin County Jail on $750 cash bail.
A 15-year-old female was charged with Unauthorized Use of Property and released to a family member. A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were charged with civil liquor violations and subsequently released.
The investigation has determined that the suspects were involved in burglaries of motor vehicles in Portland. Deputies have notified and are working with the Portland Police Department, and additional charges are expected.
