Ford Motor Co. will dedicate its innovation hub as its new world headquarters on Nov. 16. Free tours will be open to everyone, as per USA Today. The Dearborn-based automaker will hold festivities from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the building on Oakwood Boulevard and Village Road.
The company announced Sept. 15 it would be moving its world headquarters from the Glass House on Michigan Avenue to the newly developed innovation hub across the street from the Henry Ford Museum, with the transition unfolding over the next several months.
Visitors can take self-guided walking tours through the building on Nov. 16, where they’ll see employee wellness areas, workspaces, and surprises along the way. Tours will take about 15 to 30 minutes.
The automaker will hold a community car show that day. Owners can display their vehicles. The show will include classic cars, custom designs, sports models, and heavy-duty trucks. Participants can register online through the company’s website.
Food truck vendors will sell local favorites. Live entertainers will perform. Fall treats and activities for all ages round out the festivities, with a grand opening ceremony at noon and a closing ceremony at 4 p.m.
Registration is available online but not required to attend the grand opening activities, though those who plan to attend should register through the company’s “From the Road” website.
The new 2.1-million-square-foot world headquarters building will house executives and product developers, featuring seven restaurants designed by an executive chef and outdoor workspaces.
The current headquarters on Michigan Avenue has served as the company’s headquarters since 1956. The Glass House is a 950,000-square-foot building on 212 acres. Employees will leave by early next year.
The automaker will start demolition after employees leave. The demolition will be finished by either the end of 2027 or by mid-2028.
Gates open at 11 a.m. on Nov. 16 when tours start. The event ends at 4:30 p.m. after the closing ceremony.
Those interested in participating in the car show or touring the facility can find registration instructions at www.fromtheroad.ford.com under “Company News.” The Nov. 16 event marks a rare opportunity for the public to see inside the new headquarters.
