Ford Motor is introducing a new version of its classic Mustang that it is calling “the most thrilling Dark Horse Mustang ever.”
Ford Racing, the company’s racing division, introduced the new Mustang Dark Horse SC at the Detroit Auto Show on Jan. 15. Ford said the car is designed, engineered and manufactured in-house from expertise learned on racetracks around the world. Ford said this Mustang Dark Horse SC is the most advanced, powerful and track-capable Mustang Dark Horse ever.
The Dearborn-based automaker said it used what it learned in racing the Mustang GT3 and applied performance technology from Mustang GTD so that the Mustang Dark Horse SC offers customers a driving experience that’s distinct from the Mustang GTD but is a step up from the standard Mustang Dark Horse in horsepower, torque and performance equipment.
The new Mustang Dark Horse SC expands the Mustang Dark Horse family, Ford said, to challenge Europe’s premium sports cars. It will have a supercharged V8 engine and race-bred technology.

“Since we introduced Dark Horse in ’22 and Mustang GTD in ’23, we’ve established Mustang as a performance brand that can take on the world’s best,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing. “Mustang Dark Horse SC is the next chapter, drawing on lessons from Mustang GT3 and technology and learnings from Mustang GTD. It demonstrates exactly how Ford Racing is bringing our race and road operations together.”
The Dark Horse SC will have a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that’s paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Every Mustang Dark Horse SC comes with next-generation MagneRide dampers featuring upgraded hardware and software, as well as revised springs with firmer rates, new stabilizer bars, updated front and rear knuckles, and modified front control arms. Mustang Dark Horse SC has improved tire technology that elevates handling capability.Ford Racing said it worked with Michelin to develop custom Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires to handle the car’s increased capability. It will have Variable Traction Control, which allows drivers to dial in the desired amount of traction assistance for dynamic driving, and the vehicle is available exclusively with Brembo brakes.
The interior adopts the Mustang GTD’s leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, featuring a 12 o’clock stripe and performance controls. Optional Recaro leather and Dinamica sport seats are included in the Track Pack, which offers Space Gray or Teal accents and replaces the rear seats with a storage shelf.

For 2026, the Dark Horse SC family offers limited-run Track Pack Special Editions combining the Track and Carbon packages with a black-painted roof, Race Red Brembo calipers, unique graphics and GTD-derived 3D-printed titanium accents. It’s available in Shadow Black or Oxford White. The Track Pack Special Edition also features unique Solar Red accents on the Recaro seats, which are seats that offer ergonomic support for the spine and body.
Ford now offers a regular Mustang and Mustang RTR, Mustang GT Performance Package, Mustang Dark Horse and Mustang GTD, and soon the Mustang Dark Horse SC, which will be available to order in spring 2026 with deliveries in the summer. Ford said it will release more details about the vehicle, including pricing, at a later date.
