SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have announced the passing of former player Jesús Montero, who died after being struck by a car in Venezuela.
"The Mariners were saddened to learn today of the passing of former Mariners player Jesús Montero," the team said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones."
Montero, who was born on Nov. 28, 1989, and passed away on Oct. 19, 2025, played parts of four seasons with the Mariners from 2012 to 2015.
He made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 2011. Notably, Montero was the catcher when six Seattle pitchers combined to no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 8, 2012.
According to the press release, the accident occurred two weeks ago, and Montero did not recover from his injuries.
